Welcome to DiscoverTME
DiscoverTME is an academic research laboratory that seeks to discover new tumor microenvironment vulnerabilities, and to develop next-generation cancer therapies that target them. It is part of Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at University of Miami.
Academic research re-imagined
At DiscoverTME we aspire for a world where highly effective, next-generation cancer therapies are accessible to all. We bring together 3 main areas to catalyze this transformation:
-
Scientific discovery of tumor microenvironment (TME) targets
-
Drug development of novel agents for promising TME targets
-
Public advocacy for patient-centered drug development and distribution

Our Research

Targeting mitochondria transfer
We discovered that mitochondria transfer from astrocytes to tumor cells drives glioblastoma growth. Now we want to figure out how this happens and block it.

Mitochondria transfer in brain tumor heterogeneity
Glioblastoma tumors are highly heterogeneous. How do different tumor cells interact with the brain to acquire mitochondria and grow?

Complex immunotherapies
Immunologic responses result from integration of numerous signals, and are orchestrated in time and space. We leverage extracellular vesicles and protein engineering to recapitulate these characteristics for cancer therapy.
Connect with us
We're always looking for talented, motivated individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Team science is our passion.
Cancer research, designing new therapies, and getting them to more patients.
